Rattray's Hal O' The Wynd is an unusually strong Virginia-based pipe tobacco mixture with a slight sweetness that burns cool and clean even when pushed. Fire-cured Kentucky is added to a base of a variety of Virginias, with Perique completing the blend. It is then pressed and rubbed by hand. The name Hal O' The Wynd was inspired by the armourer in the novel written by Michele's ancestral cousin, Sir Walter Scott, entitled "The Fair Maid of Perth" - which is about a man who had "a most unusual share of strength."
